Where Can I Order Katydids

Quel avenir pour le lobbying en France ?

is essentially the question posed at a recent symposium organized by Science Po together students and professionals at which were presented the results of a study by occupational group Public Affairs Association of Science-Po in 120 large firms (results discussed here.)

In light of the testimony given, three lines of thought were particularly drawn:

1. To my amazement, a debate continues about the very definition of this activity. A professional counselor has defined the purpose and function: "to promote the word of the company vis-à-vis the parties involved, non-media" is not only policy makers but also other public company. In this regard, it is closer to a definition of public relations at large.
Another speaker showed his disagreement with this definition, focusing the lobbying activity vis-à-vis policy makers, professional design approved by recalling the origin of the term "lobby, hallway ...

2. Professionals seem to suffer from the (bad) reputation of their business, noting in particular the sheer lack of service called "lobbying" within companies, to benefit the meaning "public affairs". The idea received the Thank you for smoking die hard in a country where business remains relatively unknown. The French Association of Councils in Lobbying and Public Affairs issued a charter of ethics governing the practice.

3. About the future of the public, beyond the desired evolution of the image of the profession (see above), lobbying should, it seems, be framed in a business process. According to the study presented, the professionals engaged in lobbying activities within large companies are varied, the profiles legal, political and communication are the most represented behind the managerial functions "internal".
Note also the appearance (more or less recent) of alterlobbyistes or professional lobbying on behalf of NGOs and therefore the emergence of new interests represented in the corridors ...
track in my opinion more interesting and emerging access to lobbying by SOHO-SME to a process of lobbying that requires resources and time they did not and from that time remain essentially represented by unions Professional ...

So we're talking (too often) e-reputation and management of the digital image, there is logically the multiplication of solutions to analyze the web and make a ensure comprehensive topics related to the interests of a company, brand or social phenomena.

If automated monitoring tools are needed to detect weak signals, the emergence of concerns or opinions that may be isolated and amplified again, he should not yield to the fascination and collecting all About azimuths buried in the intricacies of the canvas on which the average user will never fall.

Therefore, while the collection devices multiply and standby time, they evolve in intelligence, it seems important, in a sense, for example, Study the image of a business on the web, to refocus on the path of the Web. How last works there? It is not a revelation, it works as simply the world, or at least everyone: he uses Google and makes no attention in the early results.

is also an operation which has evolved into a more exclusive attention. Many experts, including Google, consider the "eye-tracking, how the eye will scan a page. Miratech, a company specializing in the study of the behavior of Internet users in April 2009 published the results of a study which revealed that the second sponsored link (the sponsored links appearing at the top of the results page), was more watched than the first. What we already know is that the first result (non-sponsored link this time) remains the most watched ... and almost the only one.

The image above, taken from the blog screens, is eloquent in this respect. We note that in 3 years, between 2005 and 2008, the behavior of the Internet has greatly simplified. Hence the challenge of being listed in first position. One can also consider not appear front page amounts to a virtual absence ...

Nothing too revolutionary therefore, or misunderstood, but a finding that confirms the belief that it is appropriate in a process of evaluating what the user will find a company or brand, to simply put in his place . Or human intervention, time-consuming, but irreplaceable.
This has been confirmed recently by a responsible saver during a conference dedicated to the public: although with ad hoc tools, she felt much more sense to simply deliver a petition to google rather than to digest a wealth of information collected by different robots ...

There are only 2 years, the ecological argument was even touted as essential component of the institutional discourse of many companies (including the majority of industrial firms and actors in energy.) It was erected in the same selling point (caustic ecological, low-emission vehicles with CO2, etc..) And for good reason: in 2007, 81% of French people said précuppés the protection of the environment (based study Ifop Planet Care - LSA 2008.)

Now, curiously, we see less green. Blame it on the crisis, which has refocused on their core structures of activity? (Times are tough, we can spend more fun to be virtuous, we concentrate on the business and profitability.) Not that.

stakeholders of companies do not stay long, and fooled the notion of "greenwashing" quickly spread environmental circles to that of a suspicious public in nature with respect to the discourse of economic actors.
Libaert Thierry (who also, among other works-published a book criticism of the "transparency" claimed by companies, Transparency trompe l'oeil, Editions Descartes, 2003), explains in the introduction to his book Communication and Environment, the pact can not ( PUF, October 2010):
"Communication on sustainable development, far from re-legitimized the role of corporations, creates perverse effects that go far beyond attacks on greenwashing."

Greenwashing principle to which the environmental group "Friends of the Earth" devotes a category of "Pinocchio award for sustainable development" (with a few days ago, Credit Agricultural winning the title until now owned by EDF), whose concept is passed into common parlance.

Sustainable development in the broadest sense (ecological but also economic and human) can not, anyway, be a differentiating point: all the companies communicating on the subject (an active or a minimum witnessing their commitments and actions on their website), we guess that a firm does not derive a unique identity and image virtuous absent in its competitors.

Even a prerequisite in terms of identity.
It would thenceforth to exercise honesty and weight ... as with any public relations initiative so rigorous.

White Bumps On My Balls

Reminiscences of a culture Libertarian web indeed prove very present. The myth of "all free" and sharing (peer to peer documents in Creative Commons licenses) to that of the co-construction (open-source software, Wikis, etc..) Through the community aspect, the Internet is a forum for exchange and sharing (but not love). Loïc Le Meur

would have said: "It is a sort of modern communism: we train all". A paradox for the network now at the center of mercantile activity worldwide.

The "charter" of the various forums are eloquent in this respect: some require the member to appear, others point out the basic rules of politeness (we say "hello", "please", "thank you". )

What lesson for the practice of communication influence? The need to respect the rules and understand the culture here.

Before mobilize a community, it is necessary to accept it ... and to participate. Recently I advised a client to be present in spaces discussion whose members are likely to be interested in its approach and its activity. By participating in discussions in presence, by providing lighting, it would be a community of allies that would prove, in time, responsive - and active - in respect of its positions. Conversely, an attempt to mobilize members of any community, initiated a new member came out of nowhere, would be perceived (rightly) as opportunistic and selfish. It would create at best ignorance (a topic on the forum that created person does), at worst hostility (banning or negative responses.) Let a poor image in addition to the failure of the indoctrination.

Y-a-t-il des Relations Publiques à l'Européenne?

Some time ago, I was in an article on propaganda , a brief allusion to the idea developed by Philippe Boiry between the "Public Relations" American and "Public Relations" in European. The first, strongly imbued with the propaganda work Bernays differed from the second, more based on a logic of dialogue. A reading of his book will be a future post ...

Beyond opposition New Old Continents, one can already wonder about a design well-European Public Relations.
is the subject of an article entitled " Is There Such A Thing as European public relations? " published by the Dutch Janette van Kalkeren site PR Conversations .
The premise is interesting, though fairly obvious : The European continent is characterized by a great diversity of states, cultures, languages. The latest issues of the European Union and the difficulties of adhering to the European people a sense extra-national and community reflect this heterogeneity.

Returning to Public Relations, and a European design, van Kalkeren looks very significantly different names given to the practice in different countries. So we talk in the Netherlands "Communication", Finns speak of "Work Affiliate (or relationship)", "Communication" or "Activity Relationship "(I like it ...). Van Kalkeren adds that the meaning" Public Relations "is little used on the continent. I have the impression that she notes that France's sphere of related specialists when ordinary people talk about "pub" and "com".

The issue of teaching the discipline is also a point of divergence between different European countries. Some value a "practical" training while others (or their firms) value more a "high" profile generalist who will learn on the job. France would fall in my opinion between the two.

Turning finally an East-West, the author concludes: there is no PR in Europe. But an informed commentator pointed out there exist also some nuances between North American states and territories before adding ... after all, the practice of "PR" is North American or not! ;)

NB: ... And for more information on nuances characterizing the PR in various European countries, we can refer to Bled Manifesto.

... It's pretty much the title of a column posted on France Info this morning ... I have not had time to listen. However, its title inspired me thinking that echoes my re-foliation, a few days ago, the founder and non-least-controversial "Group Psychology of Gustave Lebon.

I emerged for some time the notion of "digital crowd" that could be defined as the mobilization of individuals gathered in community to put pressure on a decision (such as the mobilization of users Facebook, which led to the deactivation of the advertising system Beacon or more recently abandoned by Gap's new logo).

Area preferred (a minimum passage o-bli-gen) anyone who thinks he has ideas to get across, the web is quite a while on the space which is expressed, catalyzes the opinion. Nothing new.
But is it where is it? Broad debate in which an attempt to mobilize response in bulk and in a complementary way of thinking about the myth of universal knowledge space (such as place-making objective information or not), monitoring of the phenomena of mobilization or observation even the study of rhetoric on the chat rooms ...

What we can already say is that the user is at least a little educated on the one hand, and secondly, that if dialogue, convinced (or tries to), is part community, is nonetheless only in the sense of physical proximity hear.
However, this physical contact is obviously a fundamental part of what created the spontaneity and lack of reason to the crowd as understood Lebon, its "collective soul" ... and dangerous. About the man, he explains, "isolated, it might be a cultured person, in crowds it is an instinctive, therefore a barbarian. It has the spontaneity, the violence, the ferocity, and also the enthusiasm and heroism of primitive beings. "This design is old and in any event, on the web, it is clear that actors combine , reflect and act.

But back to the strike ... and what characterizes our beautiful country: the protests. It will be nice to think what they want ("it's not the strikers, c is opportunistic thugs, "" It suits the Government and the media treat this aspect and not another), but one of the pillars of the media treatment of the movement that affects France today is violence. However, the web can not break the windows.
So why not use it to push through his demands and enjoy great potential for mobilization? There, nobody can come and play the spoilsport in moving the debate to secure a pin.

Sounds promising but it is not for now: a Google search on "pension reform" leads directly to teaching site .. the Government. The first reference on this topic union, the CGT, ranks only third page of results. Will assumed not to think of other ways that a tradition French property?
